Description:
Being one of four planned for England, The Personnel Recovery Centre, which will accommodate up to 20 residents and 40 day visitors, will provide improved support for sick, wounded and injured Army personnel. The building is being funded by the charity "Help for Heroes" and it is the intent of Army the to run the centre with The Royal British Legion.
The Commander of the Colchester Garrison, Col. Tom Fleetwood, said that as the garrison had more that 3,300 troops, it was one of the largest in the Country, and therefore felt it "entirely appropriate" that Colchester was chosen as the first location for one of the new centres.
Col. Tom Fleetwood went on to say, "This will be an extremely valuable facility for both the soldiers based here and those from across the Army. Over the next year we will be working closely with "Help for Heroes" and The Royal British Legion to design and build the best possible facility for our sick and wounded servicemen and women."
"This centre, when complete, will provide an environment in which our soldiers can recover, either returning to duty or leaving the Army and returning to civilian life with the appropriate support and skills."
Further centres that "Help for Heroes" hopes to pay for are situated in Tidworth and Aldershot in Hampshire and Catterick, in North Yorkshire.
